Fine Gardening

Residential landscapes, designed, built, and cared for.

Ground Flora provides comprehensive residential gardening services, from initial design and construction to ongoing maintenance. As a woman-owned business, we are committed to creating meaningful gardens through sustainable practices, carefully selected native and traditional plant species, and designs that respond to the unique character of each property.

Established in 1992, we bring decades of horticultural expertise to landscapes throughout the East Side of Providence and surrounding communities. Guided by a deep respect for the natural world and a changing climate, we continue to explore innovative approaches that help gardens thrive beautifully through every season and over time.

What we Do

“Gina and her team helped us transform our small urban garden from an unused space into a mini oasis. From conception to completion, Gina handled all aspects of our outside renovation. We now have a beautiful, functional space with flowering plants, shade, and even a hot tub. I would (and have) recommend her completely.”

Design

We believe the most memorable gardens reveal something beautiful in every season. Our planting designs are shaped by a careful balance of color, texture, form, and structure, with an emphasis on distinctive plant material that rewards close observation throughout the year. From spring blooms and lush summer growth to brilliant autumn color and the quiet beauty of winter bark, berries, and seed heads, each landscape is composed to provide lasting interest.

Our plant palettes thoughtfully blend native and non-native species chosen for their beauty, resilience, and ability to thrive. Guided by the unique character of each site and an awareness of our changing environment, we create landscapes that are both ecologically responsible and enduring by design.

Our design expertise includes:

  • Four-season gardens

  • Mixed perennial borders

  • Shade gardens

  • Rain gardens

  • Pollinator gardens

  • Meadow plantings

  • Hardscape design

I felt like I was a part of the design process and that Gina really listened to me and understood how my family envisioned using the space, my preferences in plants, and my desired outcome. Creative, respectful, and open to ideas—all within my budget.

Installation & Hardscape

Our installations range from hardscaping, renovating mature gardens, and supplementing with new plants, to a fully comprehensive redesign of mixed perennial borders, including small ornamental trees and shrubs. Harnessing the nuanced experience and impressive strength of our gardeners, we have every angle covered to make sure our installations mature beautifully.

A successful landscape is built on the thoughtful integration of every element, from planting and hardscape to irrigation and infrastructure. We collaborate with trusted local masons who bring expertise in both masonry and irrigation installation, allowing us to oversee a seamless process from design through completion. Whether creating a welcoming patio, a graceful garden path, a retaining wall, or a carefully planned irrigation system, we ensure each component is thoughtfully considered and harmoniously connected to the landscape. The result is an outdoor space that feels effortless, functional, and enduring.

Gina Najjar is the finest garden designer we’ve ever worked with. She treats our garden as though it were her own, taking care of it with a view to long-term sustainability. She’s an excellent communicator and a responsible manager, and her thoughtful approach to design suits our property perfectly. On top of that, her crew are all conscientious professionals and we wouldn’t work with anyone else.

Maintenance

Every garden evolves, and our care is tailored to support each landscape through its changing seasons. We develop a maintenance approach specific to your property's needs, providing attentive horticultural care that nurtures healthy growth, enhances beauty, and preserves the integrity of the original design.

Through seasonal cultivation, soil enrichment, pruning, and ongoing plant care, we help your garden mature gracefully while promoting long-term vitality through sustainable, organic practices.

Ground Flora has been a blessing to my garden.  Not only did Gina grasp the problems which needed solving, but she applied her knowledge of plants to turn my shade garden and lawn into a haven instead of a hassle.

Planters

Thoughtfully designed planters bring the character of the garden into spaces beyond the traditional landscape. We curate distinctive plant combinations that celebrate seasonal change through color, texture, and form, creating living compositions that enrich entrances, terraces, and outdoor spaces. Each container is designed to feel intentional, harmonious, and connected to the surrounding landscape.

Working with Gina and Ground Flora has completely transformed our property and the way we live in our outdoor space. When we bought our home a few years ago there had been some preliminary work done in our yard. Gina spent time understanding our vision and aesthetic: to achieve a more private space with plantings that were natural, diverse, and not overly manicured. She collaboratively worked with us to select plants and to think about how our outdoor space would mature and grow. The result has been more beautiful than we could have imagined. In addition to her deep knowledge of plant materials and design, she is responsive, communicative, and hard working. I could not recommend her more highly.
